Ludruk is an art performance that functions
as a medium of public entertainment. In addition ludruk also functions as an
expression of the atmosphere of people's lives. Ludruk's art is also often used
as a channeling of social criticism towards government and also community
discussions that occur.
Ludruk art depicts the folk culture that was
born for the "rebellious" model of palace and palace art such as
wayang and ketoprak whose stories are too elite and cannot be changed by the
people.

Ludruk stories generally raise the problem of
everyday people's lives with the use of language that is more populist or
equivalent and seems "rough" without uploading really (trending
language) when compared to the language used in puppets or ketoprak.

served as a means of entertainment but also a means of communication between
the underground fighters and the people who watched it.

During
the Japanese colonial era, ludruk art functioned as a medium of criticism
towards the government. This is especially evident in the Cak Durasim ludruk
which is famous for the parikan "Omahe Dara Pagupon, melting Nippon more
miserable". With this same parish, Cak Durasim has succeeded in arousing
the people's displeasure towards Japan. Cak Durasim was finally arrested and
died in Japanese custody.
Layout of Ludruk Ludruk as a traditional
drama has characteristics, including:
1. Performing ludruk does not use a script.
The power of ludruk is in the improvisation of each play or player.
2. There is a female role played by men.
3. There are chants of jula-juli, both in
remo dance, bedayan dance, slapstick, and story.
4. A musical accompaniment in the form of
gamelan with slendro or pelog music.
5. The show opens with the Ngremo Dance.
6. There is a Bedayan scene.
7. There is a dish / joke / joke joke.
8. There is a parody interlude.
9. Luduk stories are taken from people's
daily stories, historical stories, and are expressions of daily life.
10. Clothing adjusts the story to be staged.
11. Language adapted to the play that was
staged, can be Javanese (ngetanan), madura, and Indonesian.
The structure of ludruk performance is as
follows:
1. Opening, filled with male and female Remo
Dance attractions. Remo dancers usually sing the Jula-juli song.
2. Next to the Bedayan Dance, in the form of
a display of some parodies with light dancing while singing the hymns of
juli-juli.
3. Then the slapstick in the form of the appearance of
a comedian who sang a ball of jula-juli followed by several other comedians.
They then dialogue with humorous material.
